Group Music Lessons

Kids in a group music lesson

About Group Music Lessons at Prelude Music

At Prelude Music, we believe in the extraordinary power of music to foster growth, healing, and joy. Our mission is to create meaningful music experiences by honouring each person’s unique abilities, especially individuals who are neurodivergent and with various abilities in the heart of Winnipeg. We understand that each student is unique, and our approach reflects a commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive musical environment.

We currently have group music lessons for piano, musical theatre, and our girls vocal group, Sing It Girls.

Piano Express

Kids often worry that playing the piano will be hard to do, and at-home practice will feel more like homework than something they enjoy.

We work on eliminating this belief by establishing some quick wins for our students, so much so that within just 2-3 lessons, your child will have the basic skills needed to play their favorite songs!

Our lessons are based on the Piano Express method, which teaches kids how to play the piano in an all-keyboard ensemble. The program uses a tier system (like you might see in a karate class) that motivates kids to practice so they can ‘level up’ to the next skill level. Kids in this program learn the skills taught in private lessons, but they also learn how to play along with pop songs or jam with friends who play other instruments.

Instead of your child performing alone on stage in a recital, they would perform with their peers in a band in a recital.

Does this sound like something they would enjoy? Group classes are $30/week. Classes are 60 minutes each week.

Time Slot TBD Payment will be invoiced monthly.  30 days notice is needed to terminate. 30 day money back guarantee!!

Musical Theatre Summer Camp

Experience the Magic of the Stage

At Prelude Music, we believe every child has a story to tell. Each week, our campers will dive into the wonderful world of musical theatre, exploring everything from character development and vocal technique to the creative magic behind the scenes. Your child will truly make the show their own by hand-crafting their very own props and costumes!

We invite you to join us on Friday afternoon from 3:45 PM – 4:15 PM for a special showcase. It is a heartwarming opportunity to witness the incredible growth, hard work, and confidence these young performers have developed in just one week.

(Please note: Spectator space is limited as we maintain a focused and supportive environment for our campers.)

Meet Your Instructor: Sarah Schellenberg

Our camp is led by the vibrant and passionate Sarah Schellenberg. A recent Bachelor of Music graduate and future educator, Sarah brings a deep love for musical theatre and five years of experience as a private instructor and choral leader to our studio.

As an active performer and chorister within the Manitoba arts community, Sarah’s expertise is matched only by her dedication to her students. Known for her warmth and encouraging teaching style, Sarah is beloved by colleagues and students alike. Rhythm and Regulation Summer Camp

Is your child constantly drumming on the table when their hands are free? Is their body always bouncing to some kind of beat? Welcome to Rhythm and Regulation, an inclusive bucket drumming group for kids ages 9-13, led by neurodivergent music therapist Nicole Steinley.

This group is designed to be accessible for neurodivergent kids by providing flexible choices for participation such as movement breaks, multiple methods of instruction, and adapted parts. We know that listening and learning look different for each kid, so sitting still is never a requirement of this group, and kids will be encouraged to use quiet rhythmic tools to support regulation when they need to wait for a turn or instructions.

Many neurodivergent kids have a strong internal sense of rhythm, so drumming can be a great way to channel energy, support regulation, and connect with others.

While the group is designed to be accessible for neurodivergent kids, anyone is welcome to join us and no musical background is required! If your child needs extra support in a group setting (i.e. might struggle to attend alone) or you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to Nicole at nicole@preludemusic.ca to see if Rhythm and Regulation will be the right fit for you!

DATES:
